Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? We all know that sexual relations outside of the marriage covenant are forbidden by God, yet I have known many Christians who don’t heed God’s commands about this. But before we judge someone for sinning with their body, what about heart attitudes? Are we greedy? Do we gossip or slander others? Are we careful in what we say about others? We can ruin someone very quickly with our words, yet we often don’t think of that as sin. How about anger? Are you prone to anger with your friends, your spouse, or your children? Jealousy is a common sin that goes unchecked in the church.

We need to get selfish ambition out of our hearts. Selfish ambition is an ugly thing to see in God’s church. In corporate America, ambition drives people to continue to climb the corporate ladder, making for a cutthroat environment. An elder in a church I attended years ago seemed driven to constantly attain a higher position or function in the church. The problem was that he didn’t care whom he hurt along the way.
